It’s great to use a comparatively unusual way of building, and then to spread the word about it. Thus the short video, giving a little more insight into our rammed earth wall. (Apologies for a slightly blurry video, first day with a new camera!)
For us, we did the rammed earth wall because it was a way of creating a beautiful feature wall that keeps the house cool in summer and warm in winter.

Fascinating! It does look good. So am I right in thinking that with the cement and compression, the earth doesn’t rub off the wall at all?
A small amount of dust does come off the wall, however, sealants are coated on the wall once it is dry. This solves the problem and adds a nice sheen to the wall. There are a variety of sealants available (solvent based, water based, interior sealants, exterior sealants, etc) and depending on the purpose and placement of the wall, depends on the most appropriate sealant to use. These sealants are specifically designed for earth wall construction and are manufactured by a company called tech-dry.
